Yes, mountain biking is like that, but there are also skills that aren’t totally intuitive, like how to go over big rocks on the trail, or how to corner around tight turns.
Andy Shabo of Backcountry Bike Academy held free skills clinics at Crested Butte Bike Week 2016. Some of his top tips include keeping your vision up, creating an attack position with bent elbows and an extended spine, staying centered over the bike — but free moving from it — using feet and pedals correctly on trail obstacles and through corners.
